Two ACL Members Contribute Articles to Children and Libraries: Congratulations to two of our ACL members who had articles published in the latest edition of Children and Libraries (Summer/Fall 2012, v. 10, no. 2), the journal of the Association of Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association. Look for “Beyond Frog and Toad: An Exploration of Transitional Books” by Allison L. Angell, Senior Children’s Librarian of the Benicia Public Library, and her cowriter/sister Andrea Zevenbergen. Also look for the article “Grant Writing: One Librarian’s Journey into There and Back Again” by Odette Batis, the Bookmobile Librarian for Richmond Public Library. I could not find links to the articles free online but they are available in most libraries magazine databases. Congratulations to Allison and Odette!
Dorothy Helfeld Fellows Announced: All members are invited to arrive at September’s ACL meeting hungry and in a celebratory mood to welcome the 2012/2013 Dorothy Helfeld Fellows. Two of them are already known to the membership: Cassy Lee and Ted McCoy currently attend meetings. Stephanie Conrad is currently a Library Assistant II at the Belmont Library at San Mateo County and is completing her master’s degree in library science. Cassy and Ted are also completing work on their library degrees; Cassy is the Library Media Tech at Cragmont Elementary School in Berkeley, and Ted is a Library Assistant at Oakland Public Library. We’ll tell you a little bit more about them at the reception. Please join us all in welcoming them! – and remember that we want to jump right in to the welcome reception promptly at 9 am, Oakland Public Library, on Friday, September 14. The selection committee, Armin Arethna, Celia Jackson, Elizabeth Overmyer and Michelle Waddy, are thrilled with the selections, and can’t wait to introduce the new Fellows!
