CHICAGO — Join the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) in celebrating 75 years of distinguished picture books!
The Caldecott Medal was established in 1937 and first awarded in 1938 by the American Library Association (ALA). Now, in 2012 through 2013, the Association of Library Service to Children (ALSC) division of ALA has prepared a slew of special Caldecott-related events and activities to include everyone in the celebration.
An outline of activities can be found here and includes a series of free webinars, starting on Tuesday May 8 with Caldecott Uncovered: What You’ve Always Wanted to Know About the Caldecott Medal. This webinar is free to all participants. Future Caldecott webinars will be free to ALSC members only. Space is limited for these webinars, but individuals who cannot attend will be able to access an archived version via the ALSC website.
Other events include a special Breakfast for Bill Program at the ALSC National Institute September 20-22, 2012, in Indianapolis Ind., featuring Caldecott honored illustrators Kevin Henkes, Denise Fleming and Eric Rohman. There will also be an online gallery, a special issue of Children & Libraries magazine and more!
The celebration will culminate at the ALA Annual Conference in 2013, including a preconference devoted to the Caldecott. Check back here and follow the ALSC blog and Facebook for updates as our celebration unfolds.
