Take Your Child to the Library Day
The 3rd annual Take Your Child to the Library Day, scheduled for February 1, 2014 (or any day in February) is a relatively new chance to promote public library usage by families. The California representative for this national program is Cen Campbell. She is compiling a list of libraries that are participating, and is offering prizes of Bookboard subscriptions. Author Betty Ren Wright Dies 
Betty Ren Wright (Frederiksen), author of several mystery novels for children, died on Dec. 31, 2013 at age 86. Writing more than 50 books, including The Dollhouse Murders (Holiday House, 1983) and Christina’s Ghost (1985), the Wisconsin resident began her career as an editor with Western Publishing, the company that created Golden Books. She wrote more than 30 picture books, then began writing mystery novels with strong female characters for older children.
