2019 Summer Reading Theme “A Universe of Stories” – Stars (revised)
“A Universe of Stories’ is the 2019 theme for the Collaborative Summer Library Program, which is used by many libraries: www.cslpreads.org/. Space, astronomy, and space travel are all fun topics for storytime. This month, we will offer a storytime centered around stars. Baumgart, Klaus. Laura’s Star. A little girl befriends a star that has fallen out of the sky, and helps it get back home.
Dean, James. Pete the Cat: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. All five stanzas of the popular nursery song are performed by Pete the Cat.
Dragonwagon, Crescent. Half a Moon and One Whole Star. A young African-American girl falls to sleep on a summer night, after seeing starry skies.
Gay, Marie-Louise. Stella, Princess of the Sky. Stella and her brother observe several things in nature at night, including the moon and stars.

Jeffers, Oliver. How to Catch a Star. Oliver tries to catch and keep a star for himself.
Kim, Jean. Rabbit Moon. Rabbit turns wishes into stars, and he goes from his home on the moon to earth.
Matheson, Christy. Touch the Brightest Star. In this interactive story, listeners are encouraged to point out the star in the sky.
Ray, Mary Lyn. Stars. The wonder of stars is explored through questions.
Wallace, Nancy. Stars! Stars! Stars! Minna and her mother invite friends to the Star Space Museum for star-gazing.
