The Association of Children’s Librarians of Northern California held its annual Institute last Friday, March 14, 2014 at the San Francisco Public Library. Our vice president Eric Barbus coordinated this well organized event focusing on the Common Core and science-related books and hands-on activities that libraries can offer our patrons. Special thanks to Eric and everyone who worked on the event!
There are several handouts from the event that are now available on the ACL website www.bayviews.org, including the power point presentation from the Lawrence Hall of Science educators, as well as some great links to Common Core materials.
Also be sure to check out the 44 page ACL Institute Bibliography created just for this event, containing sections on informational books useful for storytimes, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) related books, pairings of nonfiction with related novels, and much more.
