Lu, Marie. Prodigy. Fiction. Legend Trilogy Series. Putnam, 2013. 384p. $17.99. 978-0-399-25676-9. OUTSTANDING. GRADES 6-12.
In this stunning sequel to Legend (2011), former Republic soldier June Iparis and rebel hero Day Wing are on the run from the Republic’s government. June and Day join forces with the Patriots, a group committed to bringing the government down,
and are asked to take on a dangerous but crucial mission in the Patriots’ fight against the Republic. Both Day and June struggle with questions of loyalty to the Republic, the citizens, and each other. Prodigy is a thrilling book, packed with as much action, strategy, and deception as Legend, a refreshing change from the common problem of the second book in a trilogy being a weak connector between first and third volumes. Prodigy can stand on its own, but to fully appreciate and enjoy the story, Legend should be read first. Review based on an ARC.
