Newbery Medalist Nancy Willard Dies: Nancy Willard, winner of the 1982 Newbery Medal for A Visit to William Blake’s Inn (Harcourt) has died at age 80. Her winning book was the first book of poetry to win the Newbery. She wrote many other books, including The High Rise Glorious Skittle Skat Roarious Sky Pie Angel Food Cake (Harcourt, 1990).
Dick Bruna Dies: Dick Bruna, the author/illustrator of the popular “Miffy” picture books has died at age 89. Bruna wrote more than 30 books starring the white bunny, beginning in 1955.
Illustrator Dahlov Ipcar Dies: Children’s book illustrator Dahlov Ipcar has died at age 99. Her first book was The Little Fisherman, written by Margaret Wise Brown, and was published in 1945.
