California State University Fullerton’s Pollak Library invites everyone to an upcoming author talk with award-winning children’s author and illustrator Duncan Tonatiuh.
The event is free and open to the public, and will be held at the Cal State University Fullerton, Pollak Library on Tuesday, March 18, from 1-2:30 p.m. in Pollak Library North Room 130. http://www.library.fullerton.edu/visiting/programs/2014-author-talk-tonatiuh.php. Parking at Cal State Fullerton is $8.
MSN Latino named Tonatiuh one of the top 10 Latinos to Watch in 2014. His 2013 book, Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote, was recently awarded the 2014 Pura Belpré honor award for Latino illustrator whose children’s books best portray, affirm and celebrate the Latino cultural experience. In 2012, Mr. Tonatiuh won the Pura Belpré top medal for illustration for his book Diego Rivera: His World and Ours.
Mr. Tonatiuh will be discussing his upcoming book, Separate is Never Equal, which tells of the social justice struggle to end school desegregation in Orange County, CA. We hope to invite Sylvia Mendez, who was one of the children at the center of the landmark 1946 case Mendez v. Westminster, to the event.
