CLA’S BEATTY AWARD ANNOUNCED: The California Library Association announced its annual Beatty Award, given to a children’s or teen book that promotes awareness of California and its people. This narrative nonfiction book on the life cycle of the California poppy works well as a read-aloud, with repetition and onomatopoeia.

On June 11, 2022, a group from the Proud Boys (who were part of the January 6th Capitol Insurrection) disrupted a Drag Queen Storytime at the library. Luckily, no one was physically injured, but the staff worked out a plan that Every Month Is Pride Month. They have held many LGBTQ+ events since then with support from the San Lorenzo community, including a recent Drag Storytime that attracted nearly 100 attendees!
