Caldecott Winner Jerry Pinkney Dies: Author and illustrator Jerry Pinkney died on Oct. 20, 2021 at the age of 81. During his career, he received the Caldecott Medal for The Lion & the Mouse (Little Brown, 2009), as well as five Caldecott Honors. Pinkney also received six Coretta Scott King Medals for illustration, and four CSK Honors. He and his wife Gloria (also an author) have three sons, Brian, Myles, and Troy, who are also children’s book creators, and daughter-in-law Andrea Davis Pinkney who is an author and editor.
