Boston Globe-Horn Book Award Winners Announced: The Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards were announced on June 20, 2023, which celebrate excellence in children’s and young adult literature. One winner and two honor books were named in each of the three categories:
Picture Book
Winner: When You Can Swim by Jack Wong, Orchard.
Honor: Remember by Joy Harjo, illustrated by Michaela Goade, Random House, and Standing in Need of Prayerby Carole Boston Weatherford, illustrated by Frank Morrison, Crown.
Fiction or Poetry
Winner: Warrior Girl Unearthed by Angeline Boulley, Henry Holt.
Honor: Promise Boys by Nick Brooks, Henry Holt, and When Clouds Touch Us by Thanhha Lai, Harper.
Nonfiction
Winner: Sunshine by Jarrett J. Krosoczka, Graphix Scholastic.
Honor: H Is for Harlem by Dinah Johnson, illustrated by April Harrison, Christy Ottviano Books, and Choosing Brave: How Mamie Till-Mobley and Emmett Till Sparked the Civil Rights Movement by Angela Joy, illustrated by Janelle Washington, Roaring Brook.
