Author/Illustrator Raymond Briggs Dies: Raymond Briggs died at age 88. Born in England in 1934, his first book was Peter and the Piskies, written by Ruth Manning-Sanders with Briggs’ illustrations, published in 1958. His most popular books are Father Christmas (1973), and The Snowman (1978). He received the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1966 for his illustrations for The Mother Goose Treasury.
