The 2020 Boston Globe–Horn Book Award winners were announced on May 26, 2020. First presented in 1967, the Boston Globe–Horn Book Awards celebrate excellence in children’s and young adult literature. A winner and two honor books were selected in each of three categories: Picture Book, Fiction and Poetry, and Nonfiction. The winning titles must be first U.S. editions of books published between June 2019 and May 2020, but may be written or illustrated by citizens of any country.

NONFICTION AWARD WINNER:

The awards are chosen by an independent panel of three judges appointed by Horn Book editor Roger Sutton. The 2020 Boston Globe–Horn Book Awards judges are: chair Julie Danielson, reviewer, blogger, author, and Lecturer for The University of Tennessee’s School of Information Sciences, Murfreesboro, TN; Leo Landry, author/illustrator and children’s book buyer at An Unlikely Story Bookstore & Cafe, Plainville, MA; and Sujei Lugo, Children’s Librarian, Boston Public Library (Connolly Branch), Jamaica Plain, MA.
