  • 2014 ACL Institute : Your Library is the Common Core : CCSS, STEM/STEAM, and How Libraries Fit in With the New Push Toward Non-fiction

           at the : San Francisco Public Library - Main Library
      Presentations were by : Marc Aronson and Adrienne Mayor (The Griffin and the Dinosaur: How Adrienne Mayor Discovered a Fascinating Link Between Myth and Science), Cynthia Liu (founder, K-12 News Network), the Lawrence Hall of Science, and Community Resources for Science. Plus, a post-Institute mini-reception sponsored by National Geographic books.
      Cost : was ACL Members: $55; Non-Members: $65; Students: $25, limited space was available at the door for $75.

    • The 2014 theme was on the new emphasis on more books of information in the classroom, with special attention paid to how school and public librarians can assist their local schools in the adoption of the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS). It will be an informative and fun day with speakers in the morning, including celebrated author Marc Aronson, and hands-on STEM/STEAM activities in the afternoon.

      Presentations were by : Kirk Waller, Donna Graves, Kay Lunine, and Vaunda Nelson.

  • 2012 ACL Institute : Eat The Library

      Was held on April 13, 2012 , 9am - 1pm
           at the : Rockridge Branch of the Oakland Public Library
      Cost : $25 or $20 with canned food donation for ACCFB

      Presentations were by : Barbara Finnin, Executive Director of City Slicker Farms; Jumoke Hinton Hodge, Program Director of People's Grocery ; Seed Folks Seed Lending Library ; Pacifica Sanchez Library Garden ; Sandi Storch, Alameda County Women, Infants and Children (WIC) ; Suzan Bateson, Executive Director of Alameda County Community Food Bank ; Jeanine Asche, Food for Fines at the San Mateo County Library

      One Institute fee refund was raffled off to a pre-registered library school student on the day of the Institute.

      Members were able to submit possible titles for the Institue Bibliography, by using an online web submittal Annotation Form, or by using use this Annotation Form (MS Word File) for emailing in.


  • 2011 ACL Institute --- Comic Relief: Comics, Cartoons, and Graphic Novels for Children and Tweens
      Date : Was held on Friday, May 13, 2011 9:00am-3:30pm
           at the Richmond Public Library Community Room
      Presentations were by : Jennifer & Matt Holm, Beverly Gherman, Traci Todd, and Eva Volin.
      Cost : Advance Registration: $50 for Members, $60 for Nonmembers, $25 for Students
                      Registration at the door is $75. (Very Limited)
